Global Music Collective and Giant Steps

Global Music Collective and Giant Steps

We are excited to announce that Global Music Collective is joining forces with Giant Steps Music! In February 2024, the Board of Giant Steps elected Kate Bass and Richard “Robot” Steighner to lead the music-based 501c3 non-profit dedicated to using music as a vehicle for social impact and building a global community of artists working at the forefront and frontlines of change.. They join the organization as founders of Global Music Collective and bring years of cultural diplomacy through music to the table.

As the disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic saw the end of many music-based organizations, Giant Steps and Global Music Collective have joined forces to amplify the impact of music as a vehicle for change—and to chart out new horizons and directions.

For years, Giant Steps has built music programs to advance equity and create social impact. With programs like Artists in Resonance, Music Action Lab, and Music Action Projects, they’ve impacted hundreds of artists worldwide.

Global Music Collective is a rapidly-growing venture from Kate Bass and Richard “Robot” Steighner that immerses artists in other cultures to foster music, discussion, and change in ways that no other medium can accomplish. Together they have traveled to over 75 countries to collaborate and exchange ideas. Their 2023 programs in Uganda and India equitably paid 73 artists and reached thousands of people face-to-face.

So, joining forces seems like a no-brainer!

Founder of Giant Steps—Drew Foxman—will serve as Board Chair, bringing more two decades of nonprofit experience in cultural, educational, and community development programming alongside fundraising, organizational development, business acumen, and an insatiable passion for music.

Our next program is coming up soon in Austin, TX as Global Music Collective leads a cross-cultural program featuring Gina Chavez and Jon Muq!
